Ruby Cushla is one of those grownups who believes in magic.

Ruby Cushla, founder of silver fern fairies, dressed as a nature fairy in Auckland

Kia ora, I’m Ruby, the founder of Silver Fern Fairies.

I remember seeing fairies in the trees as a kid, and I still make wishes on the moon and carry crystals in my pockets. I love that magic is an antidote to the mundane, and the mission of Silver Fern Fairies is to keep our kids believing in magic for their whole lives.

With my background in theatre and dance, working for a children’s party company was a natural step for me in my twenties, but I never felt the parties were as magic as they could be. There were cheap scratchy wigs and costumes, balloon animals that popped as soon as they hit the grass, and glitter flying everywhere, to stay in the soil and the crevices of the couch forevermore.

The fairies of my childhood were nature fairies, living in harmony with the trees, flowers, rivers, birds, and bugs. I didn’t see that harmony reflected in the parties I was hosting, and it made me wonder what values we were teaching the kids.

I stepped away from entertainment for a few years to hone my skills as a healing artist, training as a massage therapist and movement teacher. But the fairies kept calling me, and finally I’ve picked up the flower phone.

So welcome to the world of Silver Fern Fairies, Aotearoa’s children’s entertainment company with a commitment to protect nature and your little ones.

Magic, without the plastic.
